History of Justin Plyler Boardwalk Park

The Justin W. Plyler Boardwalk Park was dedicated on June 3, 2005 during the annual Myrtle Beach Sun Fun Festival.

Justin Whitaker Plyler was an early visionary who loved Myrtle Beach and saw what it could become. In the 1940s, he dreamed of a reasonably priced destination that was so much fun, people would want to visit again and again. That dream became reality.

Gay Dolphin Gift Shop

Mr. Plyler served his country in World War II and owned and operated several Myrtle Beach businesses. In 1946, he founded his most famous contribution, the Gay Dolphin Gift Shop, full of memories and souvenirs. To this day, millions of visitors enjoy Myrtle Beach year after year, just as he envisioned.
